....Miss Hawkins, the Labour prospective parliamentary candidate for Dover and Deal, said Mr Goldfield had lost the support of the community, ferry operators, workers and the Government, and should make way for someone with a "fresh way of thinking".
Dover and Deal Tory MP Charlie Elphicke said he did not believe it was the right time for people to "seek retribution", but added he is "over the moon" that the sell-off plan has been scrapped.
Following the Deparment for Transport's decision to reject full privatisation last Thursday, Miss Hawkins said: "I very much welcome the terrific news that the Government has seen sense.
"Now it's very clear that Bob Goldfield - as well as having lost the support of the community, workers, and ferry operators - doesn't have Government support for his plans either. What we need is a new and fresh way of working from now."
Miss Hawkins added that although Gordon Brown's Labour government had been looking at different ways of managing trust ports, the local branch of the party "has always completely opposed it"....
