B of B FLYPAST
- 11 August 2014 09:14270492Sorry to have to tell you all that the flypast at the Battle of Britian site at Capel has been cancelled today because the weather will not allow the BE2C's to fly. However, all being well it is the same time, same place, tomorrow........see you there!
A late update! There will now be three BE2 aircraft flying together! They will approach the memorial from the right (as you look out to sea) and the GR4's will arrive from the sea, dead ahead of the statue, they will arrive all together (but at different hights!) that will be the shot to get! - 12 August 2014 10:10270553I have been been in touch with my friends at Capel who tell me that at this time - 10.07hrs - the flypast is still on, but they advised me to be there before 13.00hrs as it is going to busy, extra parking is being laid on as I understand,seeyou there.

- 12 August 2014 14:02270559Quite a good turnout on a blustery afternoon, unsurprisingly the bi-planes were unable to fly because of the weather conditions but the sight and sound of the Tornado certainly made the trip worthwhile.

A shame really but understandable.

- 13 August 2014 11:30270591Nice shot of the two DeHaviland Tiger Moths, at least I know now that I did'nt miss the BE2's! And so onto something just a little bit faster, the Tornado GR4 from 2 Squadron doing it's thing at Capel yesterday, by way of interest 2 Sqd was the first RFC unit to leave England for France in August 1914, they flew from Swingate led by Lt Hubert Harvey-Kelly.
The images are not as good as they could be, the aircraft was a long away most of the time and even with a 500mm lens I still got dots in the sky, so these are very big enlargements of the image, If anyone is interested I used a Nikon D700/MBd10 body with a 150-500 Sigma zoom, 1000asa, 1,600th at F18, and the drive set for 5 frames a second.
