I remember Samphire Hoe when it was a building site full of workshops for the maintenance of the tunnel locos and rolling stock and plant machines. The spoil from the tunnel used to come from underground on conveyor belts and dumped into man made lagoons from a dizzy height. When the gales came in the winter the spoil was blown every where and every thing was covered in a layer of chalk dust. It was like working in a dustbowl. Colin will confirm this as I think that he worked down there at the same time.

I have only passed it on the train and I must admit it looks quite nice now. I must get down there one day to have a look around.
