Dover Town has been a Labour stronghold for a lot of years and Roger Frayne gained the seat with a massive swing, bigger than that achieved by Charlie which, in the General Election, was itself one of the highest in the country.
The Conservatives should be very pleased with that result which in normal times would be quite an achievement in Dover Town. But, having won it for the first time recently, will have some disappointment at not holding on. It certainly was close.
The LD vote collapsed, not surprisingly - a Deal candidate did not go down well.
Vic did well getting what he did but on a low turnout I am not at all surprised.
Everyone should remember that by-elections are 'funny beasts' and one held so close to Christmas on a dark, wet windy day more than most. No surprise at the low turnout, pretty much what you can expect this time of year. There is a by-election in Norfolk on the 23rd December - Iwonder if they will get as much as a 10% turnout!
Well done to all candidates.
I have no other results as I was not at the count and just had those emailed to me last night.
