Aviation anniversary
- 21 June 2011 11:16111138april 2012 will see the centenary of the the first solo flight across the channel by a woman.
there are plans afoot to mark the flight by harriet quimby by holding events and commissioning a statue of her.
the cost is expected to be around £.80,000 and it is hoped that the money will be raised by public subscription.
a dutch group has already made plans to fly a bleriot x1 across the channel on the day.

love the one about Vics welding. That would be a nice event to mark. There were lots of daring women in their flying machines dashing about the sky at one time...liberated feminism isnt anything new. I do hope they will manage to mark the centenary with a special event and some appropriate memorial.---------------------------------------------------

you may wonder why she is not so famous, the problem was she achieved her feat the day after the titanic went down.
sadly she died not long after her flight.
