  A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, and so it was for this scam. For it relied on much the same 'trick' as the common or garden bogus meter reader scam.
  
  In the Movies, they would have tunnelled up from China to implant the snooping device, rather than blagging their way in the front door.
  Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.
