  not many countries where it is important to be religious in order to advance in politics, if you are suggesting the states i would agreee with you, but in the soviet union and associated countries behind the iron curtain it would have had the opposite effect.
  in china today religion is positively discouraged for their 1.3 billion population.
  the so called evil "north korea" is totally atheist and at the same time the biggest threat to world peace.
  moving on to the space programme the american public basically got bored with it and starting looking at the huge costs.
  bear in mind they are only now starting to provide decent health care to their less well off citizens.
