  To mark the 78th anniversary of the death of Arthur Beresford Pite, we visited his grave at West Norwood Cemetery to lay some flowers. Pite was the architect responsible for many wonderful buildings including Customs Watch House Dover, Christ Church Brixton, Holy Trinity Church Clapham, a War Memorial in Canterbury and of course 30 Euston Square where I worked for many years.

  I hope you will all come a put flowers on my resting place after I have gone,(Not before please) and I hope it will not be for many years yet I know Jeane will.

  A few days ago I was invited on a tour around the newly refurbished Euston Sq building in London which Pite constructed in 1906-8. It looks absolutely magnificent the way the have managed to marry the old listed features with new modern technology. Certainly an improvement from my days there with the Civil Service!   That's fascinating architecture.
  The brick and tile work have been carried out with much dedication and care.
  Are those glazed bricks, Jeane? The reflection of the light from them appears to indicate so.

  Pite was meticulous in his detail.
  Yes they are glazed bricks; I used to have a small supply of originals stored in the basement in case of mishaps. I actually had someone try to buy them from me but we never sold them.
