The post you are reporting:
Our military's job is to defend British interests and to act as an arm to our foreign policy, providing it with teeth.
Our interests are worldwide and are complex and varied. That does mean a lot more than defending the shores of the UK.
We also have an obligation to our allies and to the UN. It is right that we live up to those obligations. Our military capability enables the UK to punch way above our weight when it comes to international negotiations and help us to be a force for good in the world.
While our forces are woefully underfunded and are far to small we nevertheless have a range of capabilities and above all experience exceeding almost every country other than the USA. This is why British Forces are needed for some of the more complex and demanding jobs.
