Will soon be upon us once more and a time when we remember our fallen heros who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Difficult to even begin to imagine what those guys must have gone through both physically and mentally.
Both we and all future generations should always be able to say, “ We will remember them “!
I doubt that there are many fairly modern day tunes that honour their memory, but the one below comes close to it I think, a very moving song by Clifford T. Ward.

I believe there is a big event locally on the centenary of the signing of the Armistice, the Town Council have been planning it for some time.

But will it be well publicised in advance, unfortunately DTC are renown for keeping their events to themselves.
We will remember them.

Nothing special as you say Howard disappointing but not exactly a surprise.
I believe Folkestone have the Edith Cavell train coach/wagon on show.

BBC2, 2130 next Sunday evening (and apparently in some cinemas now). Jackson's used digital film restoration and colouring techniques and sound recreation (by way of, e.g., lip-readers) on silent, jumpy film from WW1. There's a thrilling and poignant immediacy when the soldiers emerge out of the noiseless b&w murk into vivid colour and sound. Some clips in this link:

I think you've almost doubled its capacity Brian, it is the largest CWGC site in France though, surpassed in Europe only by Tyne cot in Belgium. Designed by Lutyens.

Aren't they just, have only been to étaples but twice and several smaller sites close to the main routes, the atmosphere in them is something else and always immaculately kept by the CWGC.

Yes to Thiepval another Lutyens design, went with the school many moons ago, I want to go to Vimy Ridge on behalf of my Canadian family. I also have the desire to follow the Circuit of Remembrance one day.
When in the army going back and forth to Germany, we used to stop at some of the cemeteries and choose a grave to stand by and share a smoke with an old colleague, sentimental gush but it felt good.

At least this year it falls on the day it was intended to, no more standing outside the Town hall then days later doing some shopping and some people acknowledge the silence whilst others are blissfully unaware of the moment and just carry on with what they are doing.

They've opened a new visitor and education centre, but I didn't read about opening new tunnels.

I’m sure that in addition to remembering the Great War’s 100th anniversary we will not forget those who perished in the 2nd World war and in the many conflicts since.
Our military have been involved in many parts of the world since then, some of which (from memory) I list below:
Aden, Afghanistan, Cyprus, Falklands, Gulf war, Iraq, Korea, Malaya, Northern Ireland, Suez, Syria, Vietnam and ......??...?.?
A lot of those involved never returned either.........’We shall remember them.’
Independence?
Golden eagles soar high in the sky up above,
Blossom scent strong in the breeze, wafts on by,
Innocent Children playing games that they love,
Carefree and boisterous until bedtime draws nigh.
At dusk changes occurred in this idyllic location,
Men with guns crept, through the pungent night scent,
In their search for freedom, with fierce pride in their nation,
To drive out the British was their avowed intent.
This all happened, a long time ago,
In this weary land dusty and scorched by the sun,
EOKA led fighters, only bloodshed they sow,
In the mountains of Troodos or the streets where they run.
Life is so different for the people today,
The island's divided in sectors, soldiers peace keeping,
Sovereign bases still there, needing to stay,
Independence this way, was it this they'd been seeking?
Was it all worth it old stalwarts might say,
Was anything gained for the lives that were lost,
Widows and Children heavenwards pray,
Is war ever worth the suffering, lives and the cost?
