Air vice marshals, Admirals and Field Marshals don't actually retire they stay non full pay until they die.

whereas the troops get made redundant with little notice and have to try and forge another career with very little help.

I once worked for an MOD supply company that had a retired AVM as it's managing director. He was bloody useless.

The average redundant trooper can be called back into service at any time.
They're just being held on ice. It's cheaper than keeping them on the payroll.
But it is hard nowadays to find a job and that applies to the redundant lower ranks too.

alex,troopers drive tanks and armoured viecles,all the others are privates who walk,jump prom planes etc,saying that the later are a bunch of nutters.it all so depends if there is any thing left to drive or jump from.
