Amy Wright, a committee member of the Kent reptile and amphibian group has asked us to circulate the following message. If you can help, please contact her on the email below:
This year we are looking for volunteer toad patrollers. I am looking for people who live near to East Langdon and may be willing to give up a couple of hour to help toads.
Each year, in late February - March common toads wake up from hibernation to begin migration to their breeding ponds. This often involves crossing roads, and inevitably means that many don't make it to the other side!
You do not need any previous experience to be a toad patroller, nor do you need to be an expert in amphibians. All we are asking is for as much or as little time you can give for a few evenings around early spring, picking up toads and carrying them to the other side of the road.
With people out after dark along roads, we need to make patrols as easy and as safe as possible. Therefore, we will go over site locations, health and safety, risk assessments and loan of equipment.
If anyone is interested and/or would like more information I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Amy
