  An expert explanation beforehand should suffice to ascertain whether they are up to it.
  
  To give one example, an iron rusty railing needs a thorough sanding, then washing or dusting or air-spraying (whichever), then two undercoats and two overcoats.
  Anything less, and it will be rusting again within a few years, or the paint will be peeling off.
