    Deterence in murder cases is relatively meaningless as most killings are spur of the moment and often the result of emotional turmoil. Those planned murders, for revenge or financial gain, are normally carried out by those arrogant enough to be sure that they are justified and will get away with it. The first group can be helped and the second deserve to rot in prison suffering the loss they have caused others.
