  But do these jail terms put the smugglers off?...it seems to be only recently that the jail terms have increased dramatically. Perhaps its a government drive to get drugs off our streets, but the sentences seem to have increased in severity. They are getting lots of headlines like the heavy sentence recently for the 77 year old grandmother caught. So perhaps it will work as a deterrent. But even the death penalty wouldnt deter some as we've seen in the US of A.
