I feel so sorry for the people of Calais, the situation is not their fault but brought about by the EU, France and the UK.
The people at the top of all three do not have their daily lives affected so really don't care.

Maybe it is time for the people of Calais to stop complaining and get their government to do something, it is their country that these immigrants are spoiling.
Nothing will convince me that it is anything to do with us in the UK, these immigrants are not in this country so they are the problem of France and possibly any other country they have travelled through to get to Calais.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

The reason they are in Calais is because of the world wide perception of "El sDorado" in the UK which is the fault of successive UK governments. The French government see the Nord Pas De Calais region as a distant entity and not really part of France so they do not care what happens there.

Switching more freight onto rail is the answer.

Jan I think it is at least partly our problem. This is a tremendous burden for Calais as the migrants are everywhere now....and all trying to get here to Dover. When I was there a short while ago some even managed to get inside the port itself....and were running frantically about in near demented fashion. Things are getting desperate.
The French could very simply make it our BIG problem. All they have to do as I see it, is close the UK Border Posts in Calais and turn a blind eye....next thing the whole kit and caboodle are here. We need to involve ourselves in helping to find a solution...the problem is easy to identify, the solution is a somewhat harder conundrum.

paulb,as far as I can see the imigrants are on French soil,so its a French problem.the French at local level and government need to get there act together to round them up and remove them back to there countrys.and before any one starts saying we don't know where they came from we cant send them back, the answer is they can.thet are all from the horn of Africa, somalia, eratraya, etc.

The french are generally very good at striking, and abusing British lorry drivers carrying lamb while the local police turn a blind eye. Very surprised to hear that they seem to be unable to deal with this minor setback. In case you never guessed, I have zero sympathy for the french after going on strike and keeping me waiting in a queue of lorries for several hours.
