13:1477696Looks interesting - not bad price either.
There is so much good about Dover, but it's not being managed properly. As the (Dover) Chamber of Commerce have been given the task of Supporting the Town and businesses here, they should play a much more active role. It seems to me they are far to complacent about it all.
It's all very well offering sweeping statements and meaningless words of "we are working for the Town and Businesses"; it isn't "real" support, just words and no substance.

I realise you have a real passion for Dover s many of us have
but this continued chamber of commerce hunting surely does t need to go on?

13:2777698It's got nothing to do with hunting, Keith, you know that; it's to do with the body given the responsibility but not providing real support, just platitudes.

20:1478341"the tunnelers that excavated the Grand Shaft" - definately NOT the Grand Shaft, but I think the tunnel under the railway line behind Buckland Mill and Crabble ??

Interesting, I must admit I applied to join the chamber not so long ago. Not heard anything back at all! if they are 'working for the town and businesses' perhaps I dont fit the 'desired' business profile!
Apologies for the thread hijack

After living in York, the This Nowhere Place writer wanted her second book to highlight the way people attach identity to places.
Natasha said: "When you're younger you can feel very trapped in a place. But as you grow up, your relationship to that place changes because you understand it and you start to see its beauty. So, the title comes from a 16-year-old's perspective which is obviously a little gloomy.
"My argument is Dover is not a 'nowhere place' but it gets treated like it. For some reason we have allowed Dover's identity and history to be overshadowed by places like York or Bath or Edinburgh.
"Dover has just as much history as York but York is crawling with tourists and has a nice pretty bow on it. I felt defensive on Dover's behalf as people seem to just pass through."Jan Higgins likes this

The Extraordinary Hope of Dawn Brightside: by Jessica Ryn
I have just bought this on my Kindle but have not started reading it yet, apparently it is set in Dover and the author lives here.
