ORIENT EXPRESS RETURNS FOR SECOND 2012 'DISCOVER DEAL' VISIT

The world-famous Orient Express train pulls into Deal for the second of four UK Pullman 'Discover Deal' excursions in 2012 on Friday 29th June.
Visitors to Deal travelling on board the train from London Victoria will arrive at 1.15pm and following two hours' free time in Deal will then return to London Victoria, departing Deal at 3.45pm.
Founders of Deal station's new café 'Platform 1', Nick and Andy Stevens said : "Following the fantastic welcome hundreds of local people gave Orient Express passengers on the first 'Discover Deal' excursion in May, we are delighted to welcome back the train and guests for the second time this year. Once again the famous train's visit to Deal presents a unique opportunity to showcase the town and create the best of impressions for many visitors whom we hope will return time and time again."
"As well as directing visitors to Deal's popular town centre establishments and attractions during their two hour stay, the retro style design and theme of our 'Platform 1' café is very much in keeping with the history of the world's most prestigious train and the glorious era of luxury travel the train itself evokes and we look forward to welcoming new visitors to our café and Deal itself."
'Platform 1' is open Monday to Friday from 05.30am to 5.30pm and on Saturdays from 08.00am to 5.30pm, serving a range of hot and cold drinks, snacks and selection of newspapers.

Thanks for the 'Discover Deal' Orient Express/Platform 1 plug again. The train's last visit a few weeks ago saw around 300 people turn up to welcome the 200 Orient Express visitors to Deal and see the beautiful Pullman train.
Hoping for a good turn out again this Friday, the second of four OE visits to Deal this year. Platform 1 cafe on Deal station will be open throughout, of course, dispensing refreshments, with our great staff doing the honours (Nick and I are unfortunately overwise engaged on this occasion with our day jobs!).
Hope some of you can get over to see the train and its passengers. Pop in for a coffee and a snack at Platform 1 cafe too - you'll get a warm welcome.

A Town-Team Manager/Co-ordinator would be able to do that and many many other things too.
There could be coach tours organised for the passengers, around our historic sites and attractions if the train were to stop here long enough.

I missed that bit previously on Andy's post above.
But great to see the train and passengers....Have now put an item with photograph on the frontpage this minute.

- 30 June 2012 10:23180673It was a beautiful sunny day in Deal yesterday, the kind of weather fitting for the arrival of the wonderful Orient Express on platform One. There were lots of people on the platform waiting for her arrival including the Mayor of Deal in fine attire and quite a few very smartly dressed greeters compleat with boater hats, they looked extremely elegant,
We all watched in wonder as she pulled into the station, the doors opened and out from each carriage stepped an array of happy people all dressed in their finery and no doubt looking forward to their stroll around Deal in the glorious sunshine. There were people celebrating all kinds of things, one couple told me they were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and they were married in Deal so hence the trip. Another lady said she was celebrating her 75th Birthday which her son had treated her to, he was travelling with her. Another young couple were celebrating their engagement.
PaulB and I were sorely tempted to climb aboard but alas we had no tickets but who knows maybe one day - 30 June 2012 11:18180685I have had the pleasure of being on the Orient Express twice in the late 90s; it was absolutely fantastic, like stepping back in time.
