A conversation by an ATM in London earlier this afternoon. A rather chubby young looking beggar clearly not of an Anglo-Saxon descent and with a heavy accent :
-Sweet kind lady, please spare some change
-Sorry mate, haven't got any change for you today, oh hang on, here' s 50p
-No, I need a "NOT", I need a "NOT" !!
-What do you mean, a NOT?
-I need a "NOT", 10 pounds, 20 pounds, I need a "NOT" sweet kind lady!
-Mate, you must be kidding, haha, I ain't got no 10 pounds for you, sorry (walking away)
- You ugly fat old bitch, go to hell!!!!!
Very charming encounter which left me amused but equally amazed at the expectations of the recently arrived immigrants who are begging for notes on our streets. We and our Land of Hope and Glory with its "El Dorado benefits system" (to quote the Mayor of Calais) will be sucked dry if something is not done pretty SOON .............

Oh Nicola that did make me laugh - but it's not really funny I know.
Totally agree with your comments though - when will it all end? Indeed WILL it all end

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

More worrying are the apparent beggars taking note of the P.I.N number while an accomplice retrieves the card later.

Strange how his English improved so rapidly when you refused him his share of your hard earned money.
I only use an external ATM if I really have to as I usually get cash back when shopping.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I always try to go into the bank if I can, and avoid ATMs if some guy is sitting close by, luckily there are plenty of ATMs in the town centre.
