You gave him the benefit of being a decent man, down on his luck. You showed him that at least someone cares and takes an interest.
The following is just my opinion.
Now you know more about him. He needs to know that being abusive and banging on doors, is not acceptable and will only make his life harder.
No more lending him money, even if he pays up, it sounds like he is already going down that wrong road, relying on others. Lending him more money won't help him.
Try helping him find a job, with his knowledge. If he is not interested in getting employment, then he is one of Sid's rejects, but at least you tried.
Not all are hopeless cases and not to even try to help them, would be wrong, not just for the individual but for all of us.
