!998/9 is when most of them started coming in Ron - Jean and I had our guest house then (in Folkestone Road) and it devastated our business (every one else's too) for quite some time.
Many of those immigrants moved on after a while but some did stay on, but I have no idea what they are doing work-wise, marital status or whether they went home.
Many of the new migrants on the Folkestone Road and other roads, like the Clarendon's, seem to have different behaviour patterns than the first ones - less considerate it seems to many.

To clarify, the majority of persons housed in Folkestone Road a decade ago were Kosovans, Albanians or Albanians masquerading as Kosovans, all non-EU nationals. Following the resolution of the war in Balkans the whole area has been comparatively stabilised and flights to remove people to these regions have been regularly undertaken. I expect there are very few of those from a decade or so left. Many of the current inhabitants of Folkestone Road are from Slovakia and other EU countries and are fully entitled to settle.

we all remember the "kosovans" there were 3 times that many in western europe than were in the province in the first place.
one of the great scams of recent times.
as a point of pedantry kosovo was part of albania then.

No Howard. Prior to the war and UN intervention Kosovo was a largely self-governing province of Serbia. It is however culturally much closer to Albania as the majority of the country's popultion are ethnic Albanians. I believe it is currently a UN protectorate, and Serbia fails to recognise autonomy.

RON;'
You may recall the situation got so bad we had stabbings in the fair ground, and tensions were at boiling point.
thus against all advice from my political leaders
(labour)
i held a public meeting in the heart of the ward, together with getting the home secretary down to Dover.
Once again there were so many big mistakes made, some being;
1; poor planning, putting 2 sections of a community at war with each other in
there own country, in the same hotel, then wondering why baseball bats
were being used as soon as the social workers went home at 5.
2; govt/agencies didnt work together to spread the numbers, they put the
majority in priory, outnumbering the local population, asking for trouble
3; Agencies/govt provided few facilities for those coming in, and how best
to deal with the situation ie schooling etc
4; govts/agencies didnt heed warnings until to late of the tensions in the ward
plus a lot more
ALL POSTS ARE MY OWN PERSONAL VIEWS

There are Albanian Kosovars, Serbian Kosovars, Gypsey Kosovars, Turkish Kosovars, and some claim that there are Montenegrin Kosovars.
Many Montengrins in Montenegro are Serbian Orthodox and consider themselves a part of the Serbian people, and did not want independence from Serbia.
As for Kosovo, many countries recognise it as an independent state, where the majority of people are Albanian, mainly Muslim, and with the highest birth-rate in Europe.
Serbia, Russia and some other countries do not recognise Kosovo as an independent state, though.
I personally don't recognise Montenegro as an independent state, as the constitution of the Orthodox Church does not preach ethnic divisions within the same ethnic people.
As for Kosovo, I suppose it would be inevitable to divide the region into an Albanian part and a Serbian part, the first would unite with Albania, the second with Serbia.
The lesson that we can learn from the Balcan crisis, including the wars between Serbs and Croats (who speak the same language) in Crajina, and between Serbs, Croats and Muslims in Bosnia (who again all speak the same language), as well as between Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo (who speak completely different languages), is that ethnic communities can apparently live together for decades, but could also end up all over a sudden fighting each other.
The riots in London and elsewhere in Englamd began when some group of individuals claimed that the Police had shot a man on the grounds of his ethnic appearance, and not because he was armed with a gun and live ammunition and refused to lower the weapon.
The Police in London have to deal with armed gangs of knife carriers who often carry out an execution in the streets, and with gun carriers, and these gangs are usually ethnically defined.
A riight old mess we got ourselves into!
Bit obviously, the Metropolitan Police are not going to allow an armed man to threaten people in the streets with a gun and live ammunition, are they!
The Kent Police must make sure that knife and gun carriers do not end up exporting their criminal way of life to our County. We must be vigilant!

NATO are moving into Star Newsagents and using it as a base and safe haven whilst they clear the foothills of Clarendon of SerboCroat dissidents.
A native of the area who operates under the assumed name of Howie claimed '' residents are fleeing to the tented refugee camps and caravan sites of Margate and Clacton to avoid the troubles. Others are bravely sitting it out at the Malvern''.
Alex aka 'British' alias 'Dimitri' said that it was'' hell out there and cider supplies were dangerously low and if Aid was not received very soon that he and many others were in serious danger of sobering up and the hangover effect could be far reaching''.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
