Howard - #23 no, its actually pension experts who are saying that about their pensions simply because it is true. The government are acting (up to a point) on that advice.
The public sector pension gravy train has to be derailed. Sadly the changes being proposed by the government do not go nearly far enough. If they are going to have strikes over these rather mild changes that will still leave the public sector in a very privileged position then they should go the whole way, get rid of defined benefit scheme and introduce money purchase instead.
The government does not want these strikes, contrary to what you say, but if the Unions are mad enough to go on strike then the government must crush them and do anything needed to do so.
