Work is currently underway at the moment to demolish them all and turn the ground back into grass/grazing land.Looks quite a job with loads of rusty sheds and junk to get rid of.Many of the older Dovorians will remember The Langleys who had the piggery upon the downs, its still there rusting away and will be gone soon.I can remember them in the early 70s coming around Tower Hamlets with a hand cart to collect the food waste that was left out for them to take for their pigs, they used to collect from the schools as well.Anyone remember them?
I find this rather sad as the allotments behind the community centre three doors from me are all taken as far as I know and well tended. Maxton allotments are visible from the Folkestone Road and appear to be well booked and looked after. I understand that the one in Adrian Street is booked up, used to be many Dover restaurant owners had plots there. Apologies for thread drift.
With regards the Whineless down site there is years of rubbish up their. Lots of rusty sheds old tyres and some other rubbish which has been left on site. Lots of roofing rubbish from the old neame site.
Will be nice once it has been finished.
The clearance of the site is almost done and i must say it looks loads better than all the the rusty tin sheds that dotted the horizon for many years.Still abit to be done to finish it off but eventually it will be suitable for grazing.Have a look if you,re ever nearby. They,ve done a good job.
