Doesnt help the showmen when stupid motorists keep moving the cones in place outside poundland, makes it very difficult to get them loads out.It happens every year.
Sorry to see it go did not get the time to look round it this time. Many years ago my first job when I came out of the army was a bakers lorry driver and I was asked to take a load of rolls and bread down to fair ground which was in Pencester gardens I was told to drive in from Castle st end in was all two way on the roads at that time, anyway I did not do what I was told thinking I know best I drove up to Pencester rd end and stoped and asked "Where do you want the bread and rolls mate. "You have come in the wrong way ,you need the HOTDOG WAGON and that is on the other side of the park"I have not got the time to drive round I will come in this way and drive to it."That was not a good plan I was keeping my eyes on the sides so I did not hit any of the tents which was side shows but I did not think about the hight of the lorry and the top of my lorry hit the very first tent I did not hear it,next thing I heard was a lot of men shouting at me to stop .And what had happen I had the top of tent wraped up around the roof of the lorry and all the lights on the tents came down also I ripped one tent out of the ground ,We had to pay for well over 100lights and a new tent, My boss was not a happy man nor were the fairground boss.I got called some very nice names but I did not get the sack.True story.
Most of it will grow back quicker than you think. It was unfortunate that they had quite a bit of rain during their visit. As i,ve mentioned before, all fairs have to pay damage deposit on council grounds apart from ground rent for their stay so it will be covered.Anything that was already there whilst pulling on to the ground would be recorded and photographed by the showmen to cover themselves in the case of a dispute. When you consider the size of the trucks and machines i think they do a pretty good job.
Some people just don't understand Mr B. Moving cones so they don't have to walk 20 yards large lorries moving over the grass. They pay enough money to the council to cover the little damage that is done. I think the showmen do a good job of doing little damage. It don't matter the little sods who do more damage on a Friday night after on to many Shandys.
