To extend that, how "Earth-like" does a planet need to be to support life? On our own planet we have lifeforms surviving and thriving at the frozen poles, around volcanic gas plumes in the ocean depths and even around the rims of active volcano's. This is 'clear proof' of the adaptability of life and thus ample evidence that life can and will find a way to develop and survive in a host of seemingly hostile environments.
