    I was taught to play giving no quarter on the field of play whilst respecting the abilities of the opponents, then a handshake and a beer to follow. One can only assume that the facial contortions, surrounding the referee when decisions go the 'wrong' way and bad mouthing of opponents are symptomatic of bad coaching in schools, bad role models from senior professionals and too much money in the game. Or all of them.

    Football might learn from rugby: when a decision is questioned or argued over, a forfeit of 10 yards is awarded. That soon shuts people up.
