i have been watching the excellent series of 20 programmes of ade in britain with ade edmondson
finished friday with a look at kent and he found interesting facts about the county , one being kent was the first in britain to have painted white lines in the middle of the road
but have to say a week ago travelled from capel to dover on old a20 past fartingloe and the white lines were near impossible to see in the fog due to being so faint

I havent see the programme about Ade in Britain but it has a good remit. Those kinds of programmes can be interesting especially when they feature local areas.
But speaking of the white lines in the middle of the road...sort of old hat now in some areas, the fantastic markings on the A20 between Folkestone on Dover in particular are terrific at night. It must be a new coloured variant on the tradional cats eye, but now much much better.
The guy that invented the cats eyes made a fortune I believe.

I seem to remember he sold the rights to someone or some company and died a pauper - if that was the case, very sad and very short-sighted.

must correct my posting the white lines must have been done in summer , the one thing missing you need in the thick fog is cat- eyes and these are poor in the capel area
i remember about 5 years ago dover must have been the worst place in kent for pot holes , but again these seem to be counted on one hand these days
so we are nearly there

Indeed Ron.
Despite people's grumbles, KCC Highways work very hard to improve the road surfaces/potholes in and around Kent.
Street lighting too is their responsibility, so any grumbles talk to your Councillor, but don't forget the column number - unless the column has been taken away.
