Hello all. I would like to access the internet through my TV and wondered if anyone could recommend a decent gadget to plug in and pick up my wireless router.
Since setting up my step-daughter's lap top on our broadband and also accessing it via my Kindle if feel the sky is the limit...

Gary - I use a PS3. I didn't really want one of these originally and I hate computer games but it is more than a game machine. It is my blu-ray player too and it is a good web browser as well.

read an article from a journalist last week who had not owned a television set for over 20 years, watches a lot of stuff online.
when the licencing people knocked on his door he invited them in to check for themselves, they searched everywhere and left disbelieving.
incidentally the detector vans do not detect anything, all their equipment is a bluff.

I understood they could pick a signal that you were using a TV and then they checked that against a list to see if that address had a license for a TV.

Some of us will have nothing but the internet to view via our TV sets...
Homes that lose their TV signal thanks to 4G network to receive up to £10,000 to be reconnected
"It is thought that around 950,000 homes will suffer interference ranging from image distortion to the total loss of some channels as superfast broadband is rolled out. "

More likely to only effect me than Dover with all it's nearby masts.

With regards to the TV Licence, they claim that even if you don't have a television you must still pay if you own a laptop, PS3, Xbox360, ipad or a 3g mobile phone and the reason for this is that all these items are capable of receiving the BBC channels.
To be honest its all a load of rubbish, TV detector vans don't have the technology to detect, never have had, in the BBC's own words (which can be found on the T&C on the TV Licence website under freedom of infomation section 15) We rely on the public perception that the vans can be used at any time to catch evaders. This perception has built up since the first van was launched in 1952 and has been a cost effective method in dettering people from evading their licence fee.
The BBC state that to release infomation which relates to the number of detection devices and how often they are used will change the publics perception on there effectiveness. If the detterent effect is lost, the BBC believes that a significant number of people would decide not to pay their licence fee, knowing how the deployment and effectiveness of vans and other equiptment will effect the chances of success when trying to avoid detection.
Personally they've used the scare tactic and the majority of us fall for it. They even go on to mention that they use mainly white vans knowing that the vast majority of commercial vans are infact white, this as they say is so everytime we see a white van and were attempting to evade the licence fear we'll panic.
The truth is they use a company called Capita to arrange the collection of licence fee's and if they do turn up on your doorstep their usually in their own car, and you don't have to let them in, you don't even have to give your name. They will ask but you just politely say I'm not going to answer that and by law they cannot push any further with the questions as they are uninvited on your property.
