This Saturday (9 April) the Abandoned Dover photo exhibition at the Prince Albert, Biggin Street begins. If you've your own photos, drawings, pictures, maps etc of Dover through the years please bring them along and pin them up. Children are more than welcome to come in and draw how they see Dover!
The exhibition will be on show till the end of the month. So, taking into consideration the Easter weekend, children on school holidays and the Royal wedding there's plenty of time to pop in and take a look.
You can download a ticket here
http://urbandecay.eventbrite.com/. You don't need a ticket but it will give you 10% off any food and drink purchased whilst there.
The Mayor will be attending Abandoned Dover on Monday 11 April at midday and local author Tony Lane will be there talking about his latest book, Front Line Harbour.
The photographs on display depict various parts of Dover and the surrounding district that lie hidden or forgotten to the public eye. Many played a vital role in the protection of our town during various wars and now lay in silent memory to those who fought so courageously.
A large set of hidden vaults within the town centre have recently been discovered. Pictures of these will be shown for the first time at Abandoned Dover. So far, research into what they were intended has provided little information!
All images have been framed in items which people have "abandoned". They have been sourced from charity shops, skips and some made from driftwood washed up on local beaches surrounding Dover. There will also be a number of items on show that have been dug up from local Victorian rubbish tips in Dover.
Abandoned - in decay - claimed back by Mother Nature, there's so much in this town that lies forgotten.
