20:0632936Annoys me every day to see the money wasted on the A20 roadworks at the mo.....
££££ to create a new sliproad that goes from a junction to a building 100 yards up the road - why ? Can't see the benefit for the use it will get
££££ for the small layby that has spaces for 2 lorries, they tear up the banks and bollards, and already they are parked up each exit lane and into the main road
££££ for the others that will again become toilets and rubbish dumps, and again the bollards will be pushed over and the verges torn up !
Why not do it properly and have a small lorry park with loos and bins ????
Been nice knowing you :)

21:0132944Paul, ever since that tunnel through the hill has been built, there`s always been lane closures in there or shut for maintanance. It must cost a small fortune. Railway tunnels don`t get that much attention. But then of course, the Victorians were brilliant architects and builders.

21:3332945Similarly, the Folkestone Road excavations are really making local residents' lives a misery. Relentless mind-shattering cacophany.
Two weeks now in the same spot and looking set for a third - all for the sake of widening the pavement by a couple of feet. Not worth the disruption for such non- essential work.

21:4632946i thought it was all connected to the station improvements?
there seems to be a lot of work going on, supposed to last until march.
surely the pavements are wide enough in the folkestone road?

08:5832964Part of that disruption is because they are moving the pedestrian crossing and steps up from the station to the Folkestone Road.
I agree it is a pain though - a big pain. Isn't there something not making omelettes with breaking eggs ?

Only good thing that I notice is that the outside lane is now restricted to under 7.5 tonne going up the A20 away from Dover

You call that good? You want to be stuck in the inside lane behind an overloaded/underpowered Lithuanian. My gearbox got a good workout while I wasted fuel this afternoon! At least my truck has a Cat 5 rating so I wasn't causing too much additional pollution - unlike the Lithuanian. Five trucks behind me the driver ended up stopping, which caused even more problems as he tried to pull off up hill. The resulting queue would not have been pretty!
Sorry Scotchie but that "enhancement" to the A20 will cause a few problems, not least from those that will ignore the new restriction. It's a pity this wasn't thought about when the road was built, and a crawler lane included. Just another example of the powers-that-be pandering to the car driver.

If at first you don't succeed, use a BIGGER hammer!!
Phil, I think it was just lack of forethought and planning to omit a crawler lane. For all we know, the planners probably travel by bus and never have to deal with the problem.

You got that right Sid! Why is it that when anything gets planned they don't consult the end user? I saw the same thing when they were widening the M25 and decided to do away with the slip roads for a lot of the junctions. That particular lack of foresight causes the majority of delays we see on that road today.
