Just had an email from Cllr David Hannent via his Blackberry...he is stuck near Samphire Hoe in a fairly dreadful accident. Truck overturned etc. helicopter in attendance. DavidH is getting frustrated Im sure, as he is attending the Mayor Vote tonight at the Town Council, he is well and truly stuck 10 cars away from the accident.

DavidH has now walked over the hill to Folkestone Road..awaiting pickup. He is showing real determination to get to the Mayors Vote. he himself is standing against Jan Tranter for Deputy Mayor...y'see theyre all forumites. Being a forumite is the first and vital qualification of advancement needed for local political high office, shows an ability to communicate!!
Oh the excitement! Im rambling off thread here. But there will be a seperate thread in due course re the Mayor.
But seriously too, hopefully there isnt anybody too badly hurt in the accident.

Hope David makes it to the Town Council for the vote tonight; could be very interesting, but I'm sure they'll do as they're told (?)
Sorry to hear about the accident; there must be enough "incidents" recorded to warrant some kind of changes or something to this section of the A20 to make it safer for motorists; or is it once again that it is really the drivers who make it dangerous ?

Roger - I am sure a lot of accidents are from the crosswind as I have nearly been taken out by lorries there on a day with a slight breeze. Perhaps a giant wind-break??
Been nice knowing you :)

I take it that is why all the lorries are using Folkestone Road at the moment. I'm relieved to hear it's a one-off rather than a semi-permanent thing because of the A20 seafront roadworks.
Or rather I wish it was a one-off as this sort of thing seems to happen every couple of weeks. It is damned noisy outside so I hope they clear up the accident soon.
Hi guys
Back home now
The blockage was complete in both directions at 4pm. Fast response from fire engines from both directions, then ambulances and I think much later the Police - but thats how I saw it.
My first concern was for the occupants but nowt we could do with that except keep out of the way. We waited an hour then I gave up and walked back up the hill and over the top to folkestone rd, near the plough where some kind Spanish lorry driver got me to the Maison dieu in time for Sue to win the big battle and me to obviously lose to Jan T for Deputy.
That isnt the end of that issue as the real vote happens again at Mayor making. Nonsense really. Should be a free vote.
Anyway the road eventually was not cleared when my driver was released by the traffic being turned round back to the capel
roundabout and down the folkestone rd after 3 and half hours!!! apparently the outbound traffic received the same treatment. I have to ask why it took so incredible a long time to achieve that and get the traffic flowing away from the scene.
Anyway a great adventure for me and lots of tablets for my poor tootsies

Sorry to hear that David - on both counts.
I would have been more than happy to come up and collect you - I live at the top (ish) end of Folkestone Road, so would have been half way there. You must put my number in your phone.
Hope your feet are O.K.

The road was still closed off at Capel when we came back this evening at 11pm. Hopefully it will be open for morning.
BTW I may not have Sheila voting for me last night but she gave me a much better prize - a gypsy tart no less.
Half gone already and its superb - great breakfast food!
Love you Sheila
