    Rog, we seem to spend a fortune in road tax, both direct and indirect through fuel taxation. The fact is that we already pay for these facilities, but whilst the amount we fork out each year, the facilities offered to the hapless motorist continue to diminish and the quality of the road surface gets worse and worse.

    What exactly are the road fund licence and the other taxes we pay for exactly, if not to offer drivers a place to pull over or for the roads not to become undriveable? It seems to me that road safety is being compromised both in terms of not offering HGV drivers a rest stop and the wear & tear caused by dangerous pot holes. When this latest round of snow and ice is cleared, I dread to think what state the roads will be in...........
