Daybreak launch - 22 January 2012 15:38148737Cool!!! I have always loved watching the working boats on Deal Seafront bringing in the catch of the day. I remember doing just that many years ago when I first came down this way and before I even lived down here. I still enjoy doing so to this day, its that real feeling of working fishermen with their boats and nets. Very atmospheric pix there

Have just uploaded a collection of pictures from yesterday onto the frontpage. I caught the sun while there and so I was lucky with the photographs ..the sun adds colour.

while on the beach the Air Sea Rescus helicopter thundered past, here it is whizzing past the pier, the cafe appeared to be packed there..still run by Jasins who didnt make a go of it here in Dover..
Its great to see boats still working from there, a chap was selling sprats direct yesterday, fresh out of the sea..

Also the normal guys fishing along the beach seemed to be catching fish often and regularly...not sure what kind of fish..maybe mackeral..?email: dover7@msn.com

i have often wondered why our deal members do not post more on what happens there. - 23 January 2012 13:21148909Paul all I do is coat them in flour in a frying pan with a bit of oil and cook until golden, then eat with bread and butter, Mackerel not around until about April so probably whiting dog fish etc being caught, great photos by the way.Audere est facere.
- 23 January 2012 13:40148915Great pictures and the boats do give our seafront some character. It is a shame they are in a constant battle.
With trawlers from France and elsewhere not obeying the riles & regs.
Now, even from our own trawlers, although I think you will find they are owned by a Spanish company now.
In the past, seafront residence has complained that they are untidy.
And of course the stupid rules the EU keeps enforcing on them, are all conspiring to close this great part of our heritage in Deal.

Grab yourself a £1 bag of sprats, wash them, dust with flour, gently fry them in butter for couple of minutes and you will be in fish heaven. Had two panfulls myself already this year and going for third this week.
The fishermen will be catching whiting, dabs and dogfish at the moment, with the odd codling being there main prey but very scarce these days.

Even though it sometimes resembles a junk-yard, parts of Deal beach is primarlly a work area.

- 23 January 2012 15:52148935It's such a shame that they are dredging the seed mussels thus dimishing the supply of fish to the fishermen working from Deal beach, it would be a sad loss indeed. It's baffling that the seafront residents complain of untidiness, surely this comes with the territory and is part of it's charm, it's been a working beach for years and years....

- 19 February 2013 17:41216351thought i would resurrect this one as the question was asked why we don't have a fishing fleet here, i assume it is a health and safety problem with today's massive ferries coming and going every few minutes. a great pity as they are an attractive sight.

A great mate of mine had two fishing boats on Deal front for years Mr David Marsh now living in Spain he and I also worked with each other for some years welding and he would take out fishing partys at weekends.we now go out to Spain to stay with him and his wife,we are off again soon.We were over there Sunday having our fish and chips in the cafe on the front ,just by the seafood store,been going in there over 20years. Then we across over and put some pennys in the one arm bandits,but only pennys,we have great fun in there.
