Sorry to hear about your problems Mel, but please don't be put off shopping online just through this experience.
Sometimes there are reasons for delays, there's a lot of websites selling that actually don't have stock in hand, don't foresee demand or possibly ran out then had to wait for delivery of stock themselves. You the customer should always be kept informed of the situation. I see the Royal Mail getting a lot of stick for delivery delays.
The majority of packages (above 99%) sent out for UK delivery are delivered the next day, and they've been doing so throughout this time of expected delays. That including from this end of the country to Aberfeldy. Next morning, delivered!
From communication I've had with Royal Mail, and from customers, they're doing a splendid job with deliveries. Never have much of an issue with delays or missing packages. That said, a package sent 7 December to the US arrived with the customer 13 December yet a package sent 30 November hasn't!
These things happen, around the beginning of this month was when the first wave of weather came and caused hold-ups. Yes, packages do occasionally go astray, you have to accept that, if it happens then the first thing to do is send a replacement and do the best you can to keep that customer happy. Then follow up with where the missing package may be.

We are still waiting for packages sent in October.............I wonder if/when they will arrive? I am a fan of t'internet, but we have some questions about deliveries rather than dispatches.

Maybe I am just lucky but I have never had a problem with internet shopping.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I've never had a big problem with a major retailer like Jessops, HMV or the like, but I always check if goods are in stock before ordering.
When I was working in Canterbury I used to use these for taking my deliveries -
http://www.parcelpark.com, costs £1 a delivery but you can collect during the day or after work, and get a text and email message when you parcel arrives.
Not very useful for Dover folks even with a car if you don't intend going to Canterbury, but there's an opportunity here for a local business to become an agent - they get a proportion of the £1 collection charge and extra footfall. One for Roger to pass on perhaps.

i find the companies that argos use to be first class, delivery is normally the next day and they now ring the consignee about an hour before delivery.

Like Bern I guess I have been lucky, everything I ordered online for Christmas has arrived and no problems.
Howard that's good, they needed to improve as they used to be very hit and miss - usually miss!

i have only used them over the last year or so jeane, seems that i have struck lucky.
i think that they have mastered the new technology well, they have a parcel tracking system that you can log into that is very helpful.
