    I won't get into the agism theme you present, but you need to look beyond all this.
    As barrw/sue/roger nigel(if he posted) plus others would agree, being a councillor is a thankless task and at the moment volunteers put themselves forward, they have to be either people who don't need to work or are able to comnit time or on the dole, or retired, or similar

    because of the time it takes up, it is a very restrictive activity for many who hold down jobs.

    I think it would be nice to see many fresh faced people put up as candidates, but because of the time committment it doesn't happen
