I've now had a reply from the Horticulture department and reproduce it here for you info.

    "Good afternoon Cllr Walkden

The grass in most of the district is cut on a 10 working day schedule between the beginning of March and the end of October.

This cutting regime is known as a 10 day cut and drop, and we currently cut approximately 15 Million square metres per annum in this way. The cost of this was tendered by our contractors English Landscapes at the beginning of the current contract which commenced on the first of April 2006.

Under the terms of the contract there is a requirement to clear paths of grass after cutting, which the contractors generally do by blowing the grass off paths, pavements and hard standing areas.

The exception to this is in our sheltered accommodation areas, where at present the grass is cut and collected on a 5 working day schedule. This was instigated to avoid any problems with grass cuttings on pathways in these areas. As these areas are cut by hand mowers, and more frequently, the cost per square meter is almost double that of the 10 day cut and drop.

As we cut more that 15 million square metres per annum, including our parks and open spaces, it would put a great burden on our finances to change the cutting schedules to a higher specification.

As I do not know the specific area to which the resident is referring, it is difficult for me to pass comment on the problem. My recommendation however would be for the resident to contact the housing officer for the area, and any problems that may be occurring with the grass cutting regimes there can be assessed, and if deemed necessary, altered, with the consent of the housing department.

I hope that this helps answer your query.

    kind regards......."

If there is serious concern with this grass Keith, let me know and if there is a resident I should/could talk to, let me know I will - it may well of course be your good self.

As the grass won't be cut next until around March, it could wait until the new year ?

    Roger
