when I lived in Loughton and commuted on the central line there was a family of scorpions residing just outside the station close to the rail line, maybe this is how it got there - very clever to know about changing to the district line at mile end.
Howard.
Many such creepy crawlies have been far closer to home than the city.
When I worked for George Hammond, many spiders, scorpions, snakes and other species like Colorado Beetle, came with the fruit and veg imported through Dover.

was brought by the royal docks gary so came across a few items of wildlife that hitched a lift from exotic climes.
usually in the banana consignments or in bales of tobacco or tea.
just as an aside the dockers in those days were not always averse to sampling things. one of my favourite memories was of one leaving the dock gates with a wheelbarrow, security demanded to know what was in there, the reply came back "straw for my rabbits", the guard checked and found it to be true. this happened again over a series of days with the same result.
eventually a driver turned up with a collection note to pick up 24 wheelbarrows, he had to settle for 15.
