Grand cruise ships were lining Dover's fine Quay,
There were many, many more waiting just out to sea,
Bedecked with fine bunting and coloured flags too,
What was the meaning of all this ballyhoo?

I'd heard from a source, which seemed rather funny,
They were apparently celebrating the saving of money,
Dover Castle was to be the H.Q.of the fearsome Isis,
Who would defend little England at this time of crisis.

The Scottish referendum was to be re-run too,
So returning ex patriots would be starting anew,
With all bankers wealthy wouldn't it be grand,
Us peasants could scratch for gold in the sand.

The passengers disembarked into taxis with glee,
Then driven to Folkestone just in time for tea,
Not for them hovels or tents, but a band,
And luxury rooms in The Burstin and Grand.

Austerity measures for the workers, you see,
Meant others could come and live here for free,
We could all learn their language, cosset them too,
And practice their customs and learn something new.

At the end of the day if it's not what we like,
We could pack up our chattels and get on our bike,
Cross over to France and camp out in the dew,
To seek out a freedom that we never knew.

Sounds a bit far fetched? I hear someone cuss,
It's been proved right by those who make all the fuss,
England for English? Just a misnomer,
If we don't wake up soon, we'll all be a 'goner.'
