Doing some uni stuff and have a general question on a topic and was after some people's thoughts.
what is your idea of 'identity' or what does it mean to you?

Difficult to know where to start as many identify themselves by their nationality, race, religion, political beliefs, star sign or even their favouriteffootball team. Internet user names are a good guide to what people feel their identity is.

Identity means my name, nationality, area where I live and what I do for a living. Obviously it means different things to different people, but that's the first things that come to mind when I think about my identity.

My initial thoughts were much the same as Jeane's, the sort of answers that go with form filling.
After that there is a more personal aspect which would include answers along the lines of I am a great grandmother.
It would also depend on who asked the question and why, I might give a different answer to a stranger than I would to a friend.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

This may be of assistance, Darren:
Je suis ce que je suis.
Mais je ne suis pas ce que je suis.
Car si j'etais ce que je suis
Je ne serais pas ce que je suis.
Que suis-je ?
La reponse - un berger. A shepherd. (je suis = I am, je suis = I follow)
I am what I am but I'm not what I'm following.
I think identity is just yourself with/without ambiguity. (?).

Personally I think it's a very divisive question.
