20:1572163due to industrial action in an undisclosed country the police have announced that the m20 will be closed coastbound between junction 11 hythe and junction 12 folkestone from tomorrow morning.
i have heard unofficially that it has already come into effect.
how long will it be before our hauliers get compensation from the errant state?

21:0772180Out of interest is there anywhere else in the British Isles, or the continent come to that, where a motorway is used as a car park on a regular basis.
It really is about time the powers that be got this mess sorted.

21:5072197This situation is nothing but a total and utter disgrace. I`ve been caught in this bloody farce that they call "Operation Stack" a couple of times and it`s really no fun.
You can also imagine the cries for " compo " if the boot was on the other foot.
The trouble with us as a people is that we`re too easy going and put up with anything that`s thrown at us. There are people on vast salaries that, by now, should have found an appropriate solution to this on going problem.

21:5572199totally agree john, i was held hostage by the french two years ago.
stuck with others in calais whilst the french fisherman decided to have a blockade.
my 4 hour round trip to get some fags lasted 27 hours and was only truncated due to some skilful negotiating by p & o and the fact that a coach was handy to take us back to blighty.
imagine what our enemies would do if that incident was by our friends?

22:0172200Just as well that we`re all "partners" in the EU then Howard or, as you correctly suggest, it could even be worse. ( probably not though, just joking! )

22:1772202I would love to see a crackdown on all cars, coaches, lorries, even boats coming from the un-named country. Stopped for checks like insurance, safety and anything else that might make their journey a nightmare.
Rather petty I know but about the only way to show our irritation with them.

22:2472203Just think what it be like when they also own the Port of Dover, because that will happen if they sell the port off.

i think you are right, though i would hasten to add east european hauliers that seem to have trucks without certain things like brakes.
a lot of countries operate with sub standard vehicles whilst ours have strict checks making them uncompetitive.
would be nice to see an even playing field.

06:4772221I shall work from home today - it is bad enough to have to endure the Dartford crossing twice a day without Op Stack as well.........may I join all of those moaning about op stack please?!

23:2672387Somewhere along the line the information that Op. Stack was being implemented must have got mangled. What actually happened was that Kent Police put the infrastructure in place on the off-chance that Op. Stack would be needed. Luckily it wasn't and the barriers and cones were removed again, unused, this evening.
Just for a change Kent Police got this right; getting things in place before it was needed because they had, and heeded, the advance notice of the general strike across the water. If, as has frequently happened in the past, the strike had disrupted cross-channel traffic without warning then the Police would have endeavoured to implement Op. Stack - but it takes the best part of 24 hours to get it all set up properly by which time it is obviously too late. It's not only the hardware that needs putting in place but also the personel to manage it - and it is this aspect that takes the longest time to sort out according to my sources.
The only thing the Police got wrong on this occasion was the announcement that seems to have got you lot all of a-dither.

23:4772388As I 've said before, stick it all on the little used Sandwich by pass, 14 miles of little used dual carriage way.
sorted.

08:1272406Ian you are very wrong there that Sandwich by pass at times takes some time to get along on a working day and the roads that lead on to it,when we go long there somtimes at about 0800hrs I by pass the by pass and go down pugs gutter way.

11:4072442I have to agree with Vic on this. That so-call by-pass can get very busy indeed especially during the rush hour. Great fun on a bike filtering through it all though!
