You know I was thinking about the screen issue earlier and it suddenly struck me is that we are on the verge of being given for peanuts a positive addition to our town that people might actually enjoy. Yet there are one or two persons in 'power' intent on blocking this based on an outmoded sense of what the public want and their own personal attitudes. They throw problem after problem at it, and it is a frightening thought that they might just possibly win. Sympathetic as one may be to the residents of the Market Square, most of the raised objections are simply alarmism, and, harsh as it sounds, the residents only represent a very, very small percentage of the population of Dover.
So much of the public perception of DDC is negative and I think even some of their senior officers would secretly admit they have a PR problem. As Dover public, we are all sick of hearing about the imminent regeneration with no physical manifestation (for whatever reasons, rightly or wrongly), so it is very disheartening that certain persons at DDC seem intent on blocking the only sign that things are just beginning to move. In short, these minority killjoy voices will be ruining fun for the most of us loyal taxpayers.
The screen should be seen as a little entertaining 'thank you' by DDC to the patient people of Dover and to show that things are indeed happening...slowly but surely.
