I thought there was a headline through the last week that said now is the best time to buy Euros, the Pound being strong against the Euro. Not something to please exporters, I think.

Yes Howard, even cruise passengers travel down to Ashford the day before their departure date, stay in a hotel there with the sole intention of visiting McArthurGlens in search of designer labels. Pity Dover didn't grasp that opportunity when it was raised some years ago. Our cliffs make a great backdrop to showcase their designs.

Howard, interesting to see that McArthurGlens has also been referred to on the ill-fated Manston topic. Peter says its refusal was asinine enough and Watty says it was one of the most ignominious decisions taken.
Guys, I guess you can tell us if it was only Whitfield they were interested in.

All about space & access Roger.
Ashford got it because Dover turned it down.
Whitfield locations link Canterbury & Thanet directly. A2 & A256
That is why an East Kent Hospital should have been located there.
Watty
sorry guys - self edited!

A no win situation really....
In Ashford people are moaning because a huge John Lewis is being built out of town which will apparently kill the high street more, but they would soon complain if the opportunity was soon turned down as it is there or not at all .....
Been nice knowing you :)

They are also applying to be a Portas Town

Been nice knowing you :)
Dover is so much nicer than Ashford, which is a soul-less and uninteresting place, for me. I guess it is down to personal taste, but I dislike it.

I understood they were applying Paul, but thought they didn't need it because they were doing very well anyway.
It may be soulless Bern, but it has many good shops and shopping areas, including the Town Centre, County Square and the MacArthur Glen Designer outlet - and a 360 degree catchment area.
Dover has to struggle and fight for everything and we also don't have anyone "managing" the Town.
