A fascinating read

  I've just worked my way through this little book in no time at all, a chronological listing of various events from 600,000 BC to last year, lots of local subjects including the tunnel, the bronze boat, Ian Fleming and Noel Coward at St Margaret's (no mention of lamposts I'm afraid!) and lots of other stuff I'd never heard about.
  
  Written by the manager of Waterstone's in Canterbury, Kent's Strangest Tales by Martin Latham, pub Anova Books, ISBN 978-1-907554-33-9, it's £7.99 paperback but I would think it could be reserved through the library.

  I don't know Sarah, I got it at the Turner gallery in Margate, it ought to be in Waterstone's in Canterbury.

  Howard, once you've got the cape (most gentleman's outfitters will be closed today don't forget ) you should pay a visit on one of your omnibus odysseys, the building is a modern monstrosity on the outside but great on the inside and the current exhibition has got lots of local interest and is free entry.
  
  When we were there it was a mix of tourists, arty types and families with mainly well-behaved kids having a great time. The seafront and old town nearby were buzzing with vistors and obviously new businesses starting up, although the high street is still in the doldrums from not just the general problems but also the Westwood Cross effect.
