Saturday our dog, Millie, did not eat and did not get out of her bed. We thought she had a bad tummy as the day before she was lively, jumping around being her usual lively and pesty self.

Later in the day it because clear it was worse than that.

She has been treated by pain-killers for over a year due to having bone cancer and I realised, later in the day, that maybe her time was running out and I decided I would have to contact the vet out-of-hours service the next morning.

Sadly though she died peacefully that night.

I am not overly sentimental about animals but that dog was good company for me over a fairly difficult period and she is a real loss. This morning I got up and automatically went to her room but, of course, she was not there...

One good thing though, she died peacefully and had a good quality of life right to the day before she finally went downhill and died.

A strange thing happened. While watching tv Saturday the lounge door thrust open as it often did when Millie decided to join me in front of the tv... But no-one was there and Millie was just laying in her bed downstairs......
