  My view of the First Worl War's opening bars is that many people may-be didn't realise that Austria did not intend invading Serbia to conquer terrirory. The declared aim was to enter Belgrade only and demand access to police reports on the White Hand members. Belgrade in those days was right on the border with the Austro-Hungarian Empire, so it would have meant going no further than a mile into Serbian territory, without necessarily combatting the Serbian forces if these did not intervene. To then leave Belgrade once the investigations were over and return across the border.
  Nothing worth triggering off a world war!
