You are almost right Paul, the firm in those days would have been Knocker,Elwin & Lambert. Miss Lambert the senior partner was in fact Mrs. Pain, her husband Reggie Pain was the senior partner in Lewis & Pain which was also in Castle Street.
Miss Lambert for many years was a magistrate sitting on the local bench. She was truly a very nice lady whose wealth never influenced her in any way.
Eventually Knocker, Elwin & Lambert acquired Aldington & Davies whose partners were struck off by the Law Society back in the 60s. Knocker, Elwin & Lambert then merged with Bradle,Chiity & Scorer and was renamed Bradleys.
I never knew Mr. Knocker but would imagine they are both one of the same.
