15:228753050 years ago this year back in 1961, the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin April 12 1961. The final stage of the South Eastern region of British Rail electrification in June 1961 ousting timetabled steam passenger working from the mainlines. Both these off the top of my head, though I suspect other`s on here may have some of their own memories.

18:16875701961 - I was 13 - in September that is.
A great decade - my teenage years; no free sex, but lots of great music: Elvis, Billy Fury, Cliff, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, the start of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and many others who didn't last the decade.
By the end of the decade I had joined Natwest and stayed with them until 1994, when Jean and I moved to Dover - and the rest as they say, is history - for me.

19:508774550 years ago to the day 3rd. Jan 1961 I joined the m.v. "Somme" in Manchester. She was a small coaster running from Manchester/Liverpool to Channel Islands/Rouen and Paris. I spent the whole of 1961 on this little ship as AB and Mate. One of the best ships that I sailed on.
Here are a couple of photos of her. The black and white one was taken in the locks at Bougival near Paris. She is shown with masts down, funnel off and wheelhouse collapsed to navigate the low bridges.

20:058774950 years ago I had completed my training as a florist at Harrods and was doing the floral arrangements for the window displays earning the grand total of £6 for a five and a half day week less tax and insurance. My future father-in-law offered me a job in his pub for £7.00 for a five day week with tax and insurance paid. Needless to say I left Harrods double quick.

22:0087779Howard, the colour photo was taken at Greenock on the Clyde. She is shown picking up the pilot for Glasgow, notice the ladder over the side. I forgot to mention that we occasionally loaded in Glasgow as well as Liverpool and Manchester.
Our cargo was whisky, what a headache, and I don't mean a hangover headache.

. The problem was keeping wandering hands out of the cases.

22:1987783Alec, 1961 was the year when I started writing off to shipping companies for post cards and information about them following a class room project. I still have all those post cards though I wish I still had the written replies.
