George Osborne targets welfare as he warns of £25bn more cuts
Chancellor George Osborne warns 2014 will be a "year of hard truths"
A further £25bn spending cuts - much of it from the welfare budget - will be needed after the next election, Chancellor George Osborne has warned.
He said more austerity lay ahead, as the job was "not even half done".
He suggested making welfare savings by cutting housing benefit for under-25s and restricting council housing for those earning over £65,000 a year.
But Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said targeting the working-age poor was "extreme... unrealistic and unfair".
Mr Osborne wants to set the political baseline for the economic argument in the run up to the next general election. "
The Lib Dem leader said he had a "very different vision" from the Conservatives about how to balance the books during the next Parliament and believed the wealthy should pay more in tax.
If you are rich or wealthy....some of you will vote Tory....if you have a social conscience ...give it some thought...
Everyone else ..........its a no brainer ...........

What's wrong with restricting council houses to those earning under £65,000. They should be buying their own home, not renting a council house.
I'd be surprised if there's a reason why under 25s should get housing benefit.
Does Cleggy think that people earning £65,000 are poor ? Wasn't it Ross who put on here somewhere, that relative poverty for a single person is £15,000 and for a married couple it's £22,000.

Couldn't agree mo re Roger. And what would be wrong with charging social housing occupants a rent based on a percentage of their taxable income?

This is a pure guess but not every under 25 can live at the family home, therefore if they are unemployed they will need housing benefit or live on the streets.

Funny chap Mr. Osborn he moves £30 billions of privet sector debt from the rail industry on to the taxpayers ,then he announces cuts to welfare
So old Mrs. Jones is denied a stair life ,so shareholders in the railways can be let of a bankruptcies and confiscation of assets
Just who is this man working for??
