That might have been an organised fiddle as it is mainly in one area, not a bad little earner if using the Iranian 250 rial, it meant some items were almost free.
I got caught out with the 2 Euro coin once when I was very busy at the shop, they were very similar in size and weight.

Years ago the lads I was working with in Germany used the 5p in phone boxes out there to phone home same size then as the mark but they got nicked in the end.
