I have an old piano which I am disposing of. I note that just above the keys is a marker plate of McCullock and McCullock Company, 13 Cannon Street, Dover. Does anyone know of this company? The name could be of a piano manufacturer or dealer. Looking at Google maps the building is obviously pretty old but the facade is relatively new. The building looks as if it was large when first built so perhaps now it could be flats.
It would be interesting to me to find out the history of the company, when it opened/closed etc. and if they had the entire premises. Anyone out there know anything about the history of the building for instance when it was built and by whom. The piano appears to be old as it has candle holder holes drilled above the keyboard but, alas, no candle holders themselves.
Fascinating site by the way. Have spent some considerable time looking at all the topics.
Many thanks

I remember there used to be a music shop in Cannon Street called Goulden and Wind so possibly one of our longer resident members might be able to help, the following 12yr old link provides a little information.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

I would suspect the plate is for the dealer. Piano making might well be beyond the scope of a local business. I'm open to being proved wrong, though!

Thankyou for all your replies. Most helpful. Glenn I will reinspect the plate. Perhaps it is Murdock and Co and not McCullock, my eyes are not as good as they were. Well done sir!

I can remember Murdochs, though I thought that was near M&S. The answer will lie in old street directories if the Library still has them.

Looks from the Newspaper Archive like Murdoch's moved at some point to 27 Biggin Street, although there are plenty of adverts from them (spelled Murdoch) at 13 Cannon Street.
